The I-40 Blues....

Tuesday was an incredibly productive day. I was in Nashville, TN meeting with Prof. David (Smith) Ryfe, whose paper on the town of Matewan altering their past to fit the present has been very helpful in my work; and Prof. Van Flesher, a great filmmaker in his own right currently teaching at Watkins College.

Both men gave great interviews, looked good on camera and were very supportive of my film. I thank them both very much.

Despite having driven eight hours the day before (I got lost in Kentucky - don't ask), I felt like the best thing to do was to leave directly after the interviews for Greensboro. The nice part was the little chance of getting lost. I-40 runs through Nashville and nearly up to my front door. Bad part - 7 1/2 hour drive.

It's true, having finished something does leave a nice feeling of pride that can sustain a person - for about two hours. That didn't get me to Knoxville. So, I was left with NPR, caffeine, and 'Black Ice' (a generic No-Doze substitute). I don't endorse taking any medication for long trips - except maybe Dramamine, but these little pills helped.

Good part about driving for so long by yourself - plenty of time to think.
Bad part about driving for so long by yourself - way too much time to think and little way to record what you're thinking.

I came up with like thirty great ideas for the movie last night. I remembered three of them. Cest la vie.

I'm hoping to get some pictures up soon and probably a little spot to request donations.
